Big favourite Viswanathan Anand went into the last round of the NC World Masters with a half-point lead. The 15th World Chess Champion did not manage more than a draw against Michael Adams.
German national player Dmitrij Kollars gained an advantage against Daniel Fridman. After 4.5 hours he converted his advantage and won the game and the tournament by second score. Kollars and Anand had the same score, but the second rating for the most wins went to Kollars, who was thus rewarded for his fighting chess. He had only slipped into the tournament due to Vladimir Kramnik's covid infection on Monday and is now celebrating the biggest success of his career.
