After a fantastic year in 2022, GM Matthias Blübaum will also return to the Westfalenhallen Dortmund this summer: the reigning European Champion will take part in the A-Open of the Sparkassen Chess Trophy.
In 2022 Blübaum celebrated great successes: he sensationally became European Individual Champion and then qualified for the Fischer Random World Championship in Reykjavik. The International Dortmund Chess Days have accompanied him for his entire chess career, he once started in the B-Open and has played through all tournaments up to the Grandmaster Tournament. Here you can find a detailed interview from last year: Interview 2022
After things didn't go well for Blübaum in the 2022 closed tournament in Dortmund, he'll be attacking in the A-Open in 2023. The current German No. 2 with a rating of 2661 is the second top player after GM Gata Kamsky.
The A-Open offers € 5,000 prize money for the tournament winner and registration for the open tournaments is open: Registration
