What a strong performance: 3 wins, 3 draws mean the tournament victory for Pavel Eljanov in the grandmaster tournament of the Sparkassen Chess Trophy 2022.
In the last round, Eljanov came under a lot of pressure for the first time this tournament against David Navara. But in time trouble on both sides he kept the overview, defended himself precisely and after the time control the moves were repeated. Since Bogdan-Daniel Deac did not get any winning chances with Black, that was enough to clearly win the tournament. So he defends his title from last year!
In the winner's interview, Eljanow gave some exciting insights: He is not very focused on his own chess at the moment, but is employed as a chess trainer. Therefore, the International Dortmund Chess Days may be his only tournament this year and he was surprised himself by his strong performance.
