He just celebrated probably the greatest success of his still young chess career and will take part in the Sparkassen A-Open of the 50th International Dortmund Chess Days this summer: GM Alexander Donchenko!
Donchenko (with the black pieces on the picture) recently won the Challengers round-robin tournament of the big chess festival in Wijk aan Zee in impressive style: 10 points from 13 games, tournament performance 2787, an impressive 5.5 out of 6 with Black and he was already the tournament winner one round before the end.
The 24-year-old is currently the German number 3 and already has a history in Dortmund: from 2014 to 2016 he played for SC Hansa Dortmund in the Schachbundesliga. Since 2018 he has been playing for SF Deizisau in the Bundesliga. This makes the A-Open the third top German player to be registered after Matthias Blübaum and Rasmus Svane. The list of participants is now updated weekly and registration is open to all chess players: Registration Sparkassen Open
