On Monday, the third round in the B-Open of the 50th International Dortmund Chess Days was already on the agenda at 10:30 am. 13 players from the top group were able to win their games.
On the top board Gabriel Ruhmann won after a long struggle in the rook ending. The most beautiful game from the top group was played by a Dutchman: Luuk de Maan dismantled Wolfgang Deinert's Sicilian Dragon (diagram):
20. Qe2! briefly sacrifices the piece on d4, but threatens to enter with double attack on c4 and on e7. Black had no choice but to test 20...Txd4. But de Maan dismantled the black king:
21. dxe7+ Kg8
22. Rxd4 Qxd4
23 Qd8+ Kg7
24 Qxd7+ Kg8
25. Re1 and Black gave up.
Tomorrow it continues for Luuk de Maan with Black against the youngster Siddharth Shivkumar, born in 2008. The fourth round starts on Tuesday at 10:30 in the Goldsaal of the Dortmund Westfalenhallen.
