Christian Glöckler - chasing the FIDE titles at 12

Christian Glöckler (picture from the German Chess Federation) is 12 years old, has an Elo rating of 2356, is a Fide Master and has now achieved his second IM norm in Bremen. The third norm should be collected at the International Dortmund Chess Days 2024 at the latest.

PipirasAt the strong tournament on the occasion of Werder Bremen's 125th anniversary, the 12-year-old played against well-known opponents. He drew against three strong grandmasters, defeated IM Michael Kopylov and only lost to GM Bobby Sky Cheng. After 9 games he achieved a performance of 2473 - 2451 is required for a norm for the title of an International Master. Glöckler is now only one norm and the 2400 Elo mark short of the title!

Christian Glöckler is already recognised as an outstanding talent in Germany. Last year, he was crowned European Champion in his age group in rapid chess and blitz chess. From 10 August, he will be at the board in Dortmund - he is already registered for the A-Open of the Sparkassen Chess Trophy 2024.

The strong open is perfect for norm hunters. Last year, 7 norms were achieved - 3 grandmaster norms and 4 IM norms. Gleb Dudin, who came third in last year's Open, is now a grandmaster. And Filipa Fortuna Pipiras (photo) not only earned an IM norm in Dortmund, but also the Fide Master title.

It remains to be seen whether Christian Glöckler still needs the third IM norm in August or whether he will have already achieved it by then. However, the IM title will only be an interim goal for the exceptional talent on his way to becoming a grandmaster.

The Open is limited to 200 participants. Early registration therefore ensures a starting place: Registration Sparkassen Open
