Gata Kamsky in the 2023 Sparkassen A-Open

As part of the 50th International Dortmund Chess Days, a well-known and extremely popular face worldwide is returning to the Westfalenhallen. The top player GM Gata Kamsky (USA) will take part in the A-Open of the Sparkassen Chess Trophy 2023!

Kamsky Kasparow 1992Kamsky has particularly outstanding memories of his visit to Dortmund in 1992. As an 18-year-old he met World Champion Garry Kasparov and beat him with White in an attacking game in the King's Indian.

Subsequently, Kamsky rose to the absolute top of the world and came close to winning the World Championship title when he only lost to Anatoly Karpov. After a long break from professional chess he came back and reached his highest rating of 2763 in 2013. In Dortmund he played in the closed Grandmaster Tournament 2021. The 50th International Dortmund Chess Days will be a very special chess festival and so Kamsky (current rating 2666) will now play in the open tournament, in which € 5,000 will be at stake for the tournament winner. Registration for the open tournaments is open: Registration
