Youngest chess grandmaster in history comes to Dortmund

Abhimanyu "Abhi" Mishra is often referred to as a chess prodigy. He reached milestones in record time early on: youngest International Master (at the age of 10) and subsequently youngest Grandmaster of all time (at the age of 12 years, 4 months and 25 days).

The next steps came steadily, and he was crowned US Junior Champion in 2023. Mishra, born in 2009, currently has an Elo rating of 2627 and will take part in the A-Open of the Dortmund International Chess Days in August. Press officer Patrick Zelbel had brief contact with the active tournament player:

Where are you from and where do you live?
I currently live in New Jersey, USA!

What are your next chess tournaments in 2024 and your goals until the end of the year?
The next tournaments are the Grenke Chess Open in Karlsruhe and Biel Masters. The goal is to break the 2700 ELO barrier by the end of the year.

Have you already been to Germany / Europe, and what are you looking forward to in Dortmund?
I have played multiple tournaments in Europe, but I will be going to Germany for the first time in the next 10 days for Grenke Open. After that the second tournament in Germany will be the Sparkassen Chess Trophy 2024. I'm just looking forward to playing in the event itself!

Abhi, one of the stars of the chess world, will be at the boards in the Dortmund A-Open. All players with a rating of 1900 or higher can register for the A-Open and take the chance to compete with one of the most promising talents in the world.
