Record attendance is imminent

A new record number of participants is imminent for the 50th edition of the Dortmund Sparkassen Chess Trophy. So far, the record was set up at 541 participants in 1992. This year, 328 players have registered for the A-Open and 211 for the B-Open. In addition, 10 players are active in the Sportland NRW Cup and the four grandmasters in the NC World Masters, giving a total of 553 - the downfall of the more than 30-year-old record should therefore, 3 days before the start, be almost a certainty.

The numerous participants can expect an absolutely top-class event this year - in addition to the NC Masters with Kramnik, Caruana, Eljanov and Kollars, the A-Open is stronger than ever. With a rating of 2200, for example, you would currently be ranked 140th on the seeding list!

However, last-minute participants can still register. There are only a limited number of places available in the A-Open, so speed is the order of the day here. In the B-Open, registration is still possible without restrictions for the time being.

The 50th International Dortmund Chess Days is not only characterised by world-class chess grandmasters in the field of participants, but also by the many other players in the open Sparkassen Open 2023. One of them has particularly much stage experience outside of chess: Matthias Deutschmann will take part in the A-Open of the Chess Days.
